Sprzeczna 4 is a prototype, demonstration building whose aim was to disenchant prefabrication – technology discredited in Poland in the era of communism through estates formed by large panel blocks of flats. Multi-family building was built deliberately on the plot seemingly not matching the stereotypical prefabrication: in small, irregular, compact 19th century frontage development. Consciously, at times unreasonably, all the available prefabrication technologies were applied: exposed coloured concrete, impression and reliefs, electrical installations integrated with the walls, heating ceilings and many more.

Erected from elements produced in a factory, this building wasn't built with the hands of workers on a construction site. The building, made of large-size elements, does not have the finish, accessories or decorations. It is a sincere story about what a building is, what it is made of and how it works. Each element of it is an integral part of a logical story. The building became a pretext for touching upon several important issues that are present in contemporary, Polish housing construction.

Sprzeczna 4 is a polemic with half-feudal system of erecting buildings, based on the work of underpaid immigrants and the way of development taken almost from the 19th century. Sprzeczna 4 is a proposal to introduce in our country the principles of fair business and social responsibility, using for it the method of prefabrication, so popular in Western Europe and in Scandinavia. Paradoxically, this small, untypical and advanced building is also a herald of cheap and generally-available construction, possible thanks to industrialisation and prefabrication. Sprzeczna 4 is a "total" prefabrication; apart from the slurry wall of the garage and the base plate, almost everything was prefabricated.
